Vision Correction with LASIK
LASIK vision correction is not uncommon—the procedure
is not exact, and occasionally conditions develop that require LASIK
correction, such as under correction or dry eyes. In many
cases, the patient will find that LASIK correction will take place
automatically over the course of days or months, but some LASIK corrections
require eye drops or further LASIK surgery to fully eliminate the
problem.
Patients who think LASIK correction may be required should consult
their physicians as soon as possible. Some conditions needing LASIK
correction may worsen if not treated quickly, while monitoring the condition
will help decide if LASIK correction is required at all. The more information
the physician has, the better their decision about LASIK correction.
For most patients, side effects such as dry eyes and a halo effect
are easily treated through LASIK correction in the form of eye drops.
And in many cases, these side effects do not require medical LASIK correction;
the eyes adjust over time and the problems disappear. If a patient needs
LASIK correction requiring a repeat LASIK procedure, the cost is generally
covered under the original price. Some LASIK corrections may not be
covered however, and the financial responsibility for any required LASIK
correction should be discussed prior to payment for the original procedure.
Prospective patients should discuss LASIK correction with their physician
during the pre-operative meetings, and should fully understand the LASIK
correction procedures available for various conditions. LASIK physicians
can answer specific questions regarding different LASIK corrections
and their rates of success.
