Macular Degeneration and LASIK
Macular degeneration LASIK cannot cure the disease, but it
can slow its progression. Patients who can benefit from macular
degeneration LASIK have a rare form of the condition, known as “wet” macular
degeneration.
Those who choose macular degeneration LASIK are attempting to preserve
what is left of their sight. Through the use of macular degeneration
LASIK, doctors can stop the spreading of blood vessels that cause wet
macular degeneration. Unfortunately, macular degeneration LASIK does
not seem to help patients who have the more common form of macular degeneration.
Macular degeneration LASIK must be used in the early stages of the disease
to be effective. Individuals undergoing macular degeneration LASIK are
often able to arrest the progression of the eye disease, since macular
degeneration LASIK destroys the new blood vessels forming on the back
of the eye, and preventing leakage. Macular degeneration LASIK is often
combined with other treatments, like vitamin regimens, in order to optimize
results for macular degeneration LASIK patients. Most doctors require
patients to undergo a battery of tests, assessing their suitability
for macular degeneration LASIK treatment and analyzing the extent of
the existing damage.
