LASIK Post-Op Treatment

LASIK post-op treatment allows the doctor to monitor the patient’s progress as vision stabilizes. During the LASIK post-op period, patients will need to follow a specific routine, including returning to the doctor for LASIK post-op examinations.

Following the LASIK surgery, the eyes are usually sensitive and need time to heal. LASIK post-op instructions often advise patients to get enough rest and to use any prescribed medications for LASIK post-op discomfort. A variety of treatments may be given to patients in the LASIK post-op period, including steroid drops to aid healing, moisturizing drops, and antibiotics to prevent infection. During LASIK post-op, patients usually wear protective eye shields to prevent them from rubbing their eyes. Usually, the LASIK post-op shields are worn for the first few hours following surgery, and then nightly until LASIK post-op healing is done, normally within a few weeks of surgery. Among various problems reported during LASIK post-op are dry eyes, discomfort, flap migration, slow healing, blurry vision, and light sensitivity. Almost all LASIK post-op problems are temporary, and many clear up on their own, although a small number of LASIK post-op issues need specific treatment and others result in permanent damage.
