LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK eye surgery uses a high-powered laser to reshape the
cornea and correct vision. A LASIK eye surgery procedure
can fix near or far-sightedness, and is an effective treatment for
astigmatism. Often, LASIK eye surgery can restore the patient’s
sight to perfect, or 20/20, vision, but LASIK eye surgery does not
have any guarantees.
Prior to undergoing LASIK eye surgery, an initial evaluation by a physician
will determine if the patient is a good LASIK eye surgery candidate.
The patient should stop wearing contacts for a few weeks prior to the
LASIK eye surgery evaluation, because contacts change the shape of the
cornea, which could result in LASIK eye surgery that over or under corrects
the problem. Patients who are good candidates for LASIK eye surgery
should be made aware of all of the risks and side effects that LASIK
eye surgery entails, including very rare cases of blindness. Patients
who agree to LASIK eye surgery will sign an informed consent form stating
all of the risks involved.
The day of LASIK eye surgery, patients should not use makeup or facial
lotion, to lower the risk of infection after LASIK eye surgery. The
doctor will probably also have the patient wash the eye area prior to
LASIK eye surgery, to further reduce the chance of infection.
LASIK eye surgery is a fairly simple procedure: First the physician
performing the LASIK eye surgery removes a thin layer of the cornea,
then the uses the LASIK eye surgery laser machine to reshape the cornea
itself, before replacing the layer removed previously. The entire LASIK
eye surgery procedure takes a matter of minutes, and recovery times
are usually short as well. Following LASIK eye surgery, the patient
may have follow up visits to track the healing process.
Most LASIK eye surgery patients find that their vision is somewhat
blurry, but corrects in the weeks or months following LASIK eye surgery.
Some patients will never have fully corrected sight, but results overall
are generally good after LASIK eye surgery. If you are interested in
