Humidity May Affect LASIK Outcome
August 1, 2004
According to a study including 191 patients undergoing LASIK, the percentage of patients that required a touch-up after the initial procedure ranged from zero in the winter months to 50 percent in September. The high outdoor humidity is the highest in September, making the chances of undercorrection more likely due to the decrease in laser energy absorbed by the eye when humidity is greater. Any LASIK patients planning on undergoing the surgical procedure during a humid time of year should inquire about making laser adjustments to consider the level of outdoor humidity.
