Presbyopia Blended Vision

Historically, a majority of the population over age 40 was destined to need a prescription for bifocals - glasses designed to help patients with presbyopia read close-up, while still maintaining distance vision. Recent technological advances have made it possible to treat presbyopia without glasses. One of these techniques is called blended vision.

Blended vision treatment for presbyopia, the most prevalent eye condition in the United States, affecting everyone by the age of 51, has been made possible by a new surgery called conductive keratoplasty (CK). CK uses radio waves to reshape the cornea and bring the eye back to focus. The results of CK lead to blended vision.

Also known as monovision, blended vision for presbyopia strengthens the close-up vision in just one eye, keeping the distance vision the same in both. The brain then knows to switch back and forth between distance and close-up vision without causing a distraction to the patient. Blended vision for presbyopia allows for improvement of near vision without compromise of distance vision.
