Laser Presbyopia Reversal
Laser presbyopia reversal is a promising new technique used to treat the effects of aging on vision. Currently in clinical trials, the surgery is aimed at correcting the blurred close-up vision that inevitably occurs in people over the age of 40.
An estimated 90 million people in the United States either currently have presbyopia or will have it by the year 2014. SurgiLight, Inc., the company pioneering the development of laser presbyopia reversal, has already seen success in most of the 55 people tested in clinical studies.
During laser presbyopia reversal surgery, surgeons use infrared lasers to make eight incisions in the sclera, or the white of the eye, to adjust the lens and correct vision. Typically, the procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes. After undergoing laser presbyopia reversal surgery, eyes may be red or dry for a few days up to a few weeks. Patients can usually return to work in a day or two.
